Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal yesterday (11 July) visited the headquarters of the UK’s largest shooting & conservation organisation in her new role as Patron of the association.
The Princess Royal spent time meeting BASC staff, council members and guests, hearing about their work for shooting and conservation.
During her visit The Princess Royal launched the new BASC Wildlife Fund, which provides grants for conservation projects and loans for land purchase.
She also learned about BASC’s duck nest tube project, which aims to boost the breeding success of mallard in the UK, and later enjoyed a gundog demonstration. She took time to view many of the fascinating artefacts that are part of BASC’s rich history as part of the visit also.
The Princess Royal was shown the Duke of Edinburgh Building that was opened by her father in 2010. The Duke of Edinburgh was BASC Patron for more than half a century up to his death in 2021.
Eoghan Cameron, BASC chairman, said: “It was an absolute honour to host Her Royal Highness for the day at BASC headquarters. The day-to-day work of BASC staff is extensive, and it was with great privilege to provide her with a snapshot of it all.
“BASC very much looks forward to working with The Princess Royal as our Patron.”
