Firearms licensing

The December episode of the BASC podcast offers a unique insight into firearms licensing at the Metropolitan Police.

Edwin Poots MLA has agreed to support the Northern Ireland Firearms Representative Group, of which BASC is a member.

BASC is calling for a major overhaul of firearms licensing in England and Wales following a recent investigation.

The leaflet aims to highlight the support that is available to certificate holders and encourages those who need help to seek it.

They currently have a backlog of firearms licence applications that is sitting at roughly 3,000 applications and rising.   

Eighteen police forces are taking more than 100 days to turn around applications.

Northern Ireland’s largest shooting and countryside organisations have joined forces to help improve firearms licensing.

The Home Office has begun tendering for a new system to replace the National Firearms Licence Management System in England and Wales.
