Advice on shooting during the National Mourning period and on the day of the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September, the following advice has been issued by the Cabinet Office:

“There is no obligation to cancel or postpone sporting events during the National Mourning period. This is at the discretion of individual organisations. As a mark of respect, organisations might wish to consider cancelling or postponing events on the day of the State Funeral. They are under no obligation to do so and this is entirely at the discretion of individual organisations. If sporting events are planned for the day of the State Funeral, organisations may want to adjust the event timings so they do not clash with the timings of the funeral service and associated processions.”

BASC advises those involved in shooting to follow this guidance as well as considering the impact of their activities on neighbours and other countryside users.

As a mark of respect, we advise wherever possible shooting should not take place on the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

The State Funeral will take place on Monday 19 September at 11am.
